CONCEPT OF COMMUNITY KITCHEN AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Community Kitchen concept builds up with the community people, bring them together, plan and cook food and distribute among the people to mitigate the food scarcity and this concept was considered by lot of groups and NGOs particularly during the time India was reeling under COVID19 pandemic situation. And one more feature of it is to make arrangement in regular intervals, may be weekly or fortnightly. Menu in a community kitchen is not a big factor.
Important thing is that people gather together, join hands in planning and cooking in large quantity which the people of the locality share and get healthy and tasty food. And the good thing is that the community kitchen can be arranged anywhere – in a church, in schools, in neighbouring houses, in community health centres, even under open sky.

EVERYSIDE FOUNDATION AND THE COMMUNITY KICHEN

Such initiative was taken by the Everyside Foundation to help people getting food in the dire need, particularly during COVID19 and since then this became almost a practice. So much so that people wait for this to happen and this whole affair is managed well by the able volunteers under the guidance and advice from the people behind this NGO.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF COMMUNITY KITCHEN MODEL EXERCISED DURING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

During internship program, Everyside Foundation CEO, conceptualized about the community kitchen concept so that the interns get a first-hand experience to know and feel the importance of it in our society.
When this program was undertaken for the community people as an important activity, the CEO and all volunteers sat together and chalked out plan meticulously. Volunteers were grouped to perform different things – setting up kitchen in different corners, managing utensils and cooking gas, one group went to shopping from local vegetable market and provision store. In this local people helped by donating vegetables and other essential things. Some were busy managing raw materials, cutting vegetables and readying cooking utensils in the previous night.

But this time, it is a model specially designed and exercised among the interns who were present from all corners of the country.
On a real occasion, over 200 people gather for which foods are prepared which the NGO Everyside Foundation is experienced.

For the interns, finally, the D-day is here. Number of people are less but the vibe is full on.
So, how much more time for waiting? The smell, the look, the vigour of the volunteers, impatiently waiting the small crowd, the interns are to watch for today. Ah, finally it’s the lunch time…. girls sitting in small groups, in a round shape and are distributed by the volunteers – all happy smiling faces. Tasty food are served on plates and getting finished in no time. “Give me more”, “Give me once more” seems to be the mantra of the hour.
Well, preparing food in a community kitchen is a pleasure and satisfying to watch that community people are eating well and this gathering creates a tremendous sense of bonding, huge family feeling and making everyone included in this occasion. Interacting while eating, chatting over food creates and sorts many problems in no time – whatever simple or complex those are in nature gives the sense of fellow feeling.

In this miniature community kitchen, the NGO Everyside Foundation and its CEO exactly wanted to portay the larger picture to the handful interns, to teach them the significance of the community kitchen.
Volunteers of Everyside Foundation made this affair a successful venture which provides unlimited joy and fun and important learning for the interns.
