GOOD DEED WEEK: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION

The Good Deed Week: Youth Development Program by Everyside Foundation with assistance with CUMTA on 3rd January 2024 at SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai, India aimed to address and improve the overall well-being of youth in our community. This initiative sought to empower youth by focusing on key areas such as health, education, economic opportunities, and social support.

Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority – (CUMTA) is a government agency in Chennai that participates in the local governance of public transport concerns. It is developing a comprehensive mobility plan for the city. With a To travel time & cost, reliable. and faster public transport, increasing public transport network, improved connectivity between different modes of public transport and cre, and creating safe roads, the Comprehensive Mobility Plan will be prepared for Chennai with citizens this survey. CUMTA is seeking valuable insights from the NGOs in Chennai through a survey. We Everyside Foundation has played a significant role in shaping the transport system and infrastructure for the next 25 years by helping CUMTA through the public survey.

OBJECTIVES

1. Education Empowerment: Focusing on education, the campaign aimed to
enhance literacy rates among young adults. Initiatives included scholarship programs, vocational training workshops, and mentorship programs to support them in pursuing their educational and career goals.
2. Economic Empowerment: To foster economic independence,the campaign facilitated skill development programs and entrepreneurship workshops. Microfinance initiatives were also introduced to enable them to start and sustain their business, contributing to their financial autonomy.
3. Legal Awareness and Support: The campaign sought to raise awareness about adult’s legal rights and provide support for those facing legal challenges. Workshops on domestic violence, legal counseling sessions, and assistance in navigating the legal system were integral components of this effort.
4. Community Building and Support Networks: Recognizing the importance of social support, the campaign encouraged the formation of youth support groups. These groups provided a platform for women to share experiences, discuss challenges, and offer emotional support, fostering a sense of community.
5. CMP Survey: They were trained to conduct online survey medium with the region, and how to find employment.

The campaign’s success hinged on collaboration with CUMTA, the government agency. Awareness campaigns were conducted through various mediums, including workshops, seminars, and social media platforms. The active involvement of volunteers and influencers helped amplify the campaign’s reach and impact.

CHALLENGES

Challenges such as cultural barriers, resource constraints, and resistance to change were addressed through community engagement and tailored awareness programs. Continuous feedback loops were established to adapt strategies and ensure the campaign remained responsive to the evolving needs of the community.

OUTCOMES

The Good Deed Week: Youth Development Program witnessed positive outcomes, including increased transportation awareness, a rise in educational enrollment among adults, and the successful establishment of youth-led enterprises. The community reported a heightened sense of solidarity among youth, contributing to an overall improvement in the well-being and empowerment of youth.

SIGNIFICANT MENTIONS

Volunteers played a pivotal role in the success of the campaign. Their dedication and enthusiasm created a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging active participation from the community. Extending our gratitude to Ms. Beulah and Mr. Karthik from our team for organizing the campaign.A lso, 20 participants from the NSS Unit of SRM Valliammai Engineering College joined hands with us for the campaign.
We thank Mr. Parthasarathy who was Program Officer who coordinated the students to
participate for our Program. His contribution and support were felt during the campaign.

The Good Deed Week Campaign not only addressed immediate challenges faced by youth but also laid the foundation for sustained progress. By fostering a comprehensive approach that combines education, economic empowerment, and community support, the campaign aimed to create lasting positive change for youth in our community. Ongoing evaluation and adaptation will be essential to ensuring the continued success and impact of such initiatives.
